Abstract: The SAP5 programme shell unit is used to conduct three dimension finite element strength analysis on the holding device, the main force applied component of the rod coil packing machine which is developed and manufactured by Panzhihua Iron and Steel Co., The weak point has been found and measures taken to improve the structure have been proposed. Its modification is proved to be successful and rational through verification of the reconstructed structure.
